I had my behind the knee scan today. My appointment was at 8:30, I was at the place by 8:10, waited until exactly half past, when I was taken to the scan room and scanned and done within ten minutes. Apparently results will be sent to my doctor in about a week, so guess we'll see if anything shows then.

As I was in the same building I'd always planned to go to the gym after my appointment, which is exactly what I did. The receptionist called me over on the way in, asking if I'd had news about Rosie, as it seems they're as clueless as me. We got to talking, and I was saying how I missed the class, and the receptionist said why didn't I try one of the actual gym classes.

I admitted to her that they still intimidate me a little, so she said there another class that was for beginners and could be adapted. It has two levels, one for people who need to sit while exercising, and a next level class for those that could stand but could adapt moves if needed.

I was a bit unsure, so she said she'd sent the trainer in to see me so we could have a talk, and well, I'm going back to the gym and to the level two class in about an hour. I have to admit though, after talking to him, where he gave me an example of the stuff they do, I suspect it won't be challenging enough. But, even if it's not, it's making me accountable to actually go back out and do something.

This burst of energy is helped by the fact it's a gorgeous day today, cool, but so sunny it lifted my spirits when I was out walking earlier.

ETA: I got distracted by a survey and had to leave in hurry to get there on time, so couldn't post before leaving. I'm back home again now and like I suspected the class was easy, only three circuits of 5 exercises, and you got to sit down between each circuit. I'll go back as I do like the community aspect of the classes, plus there's the walk either side on top, but doubt I'll break a sweat while there.

The survey I talked about amused me. The screener was have you watched Heated Rivalry, so of course I had to click yes, and then ended up with a survey that kept asking if I related to Shane and Ilya personally, and especially, to their sexual relationship. It was quite easy to say my own relationship may not be that intense.

I am likely going to finish all current projects, and then my writing I share with the public will only be what I sign up for in charity drives and exchanges.

I just don't have enough energy to warrant putting the effort into sharing/promoting fic when it is a source of stress, given comment dearth and spammer content.

I will not be removing any of my archives. I'm just going to stop trying to engage with others.

Basic summary: Herewiss, Prince of the Brightwood, is the only man in centuries to possess the Power of the Flame, but he cannot use or control it, not even to help his dearest friend, Freelorn, the exiled Prince of Arlen. But Herewiss does have a talent for sorcery, and, aided by the enigmatic creature Sunspark, he is able to rout the armies besieging Freelorn.

Now Herewiss faces a devastating choice. With or without the Power, he knows his time is running out. Shall he join Freelorn in his fight to regain his kingdom? Or shall he seek out the ancient castle where doors lead to other worlds, worlds Sunspark has hinted at, perhaps even the door that would teach him to control the Power...

My thoughts: ...I forgot I have the omnibus edition, I wondered why it was taking me so long to finish. 😭 Then BAM it started playing book two and I was like 'wait what?' I listened to the ebook via the Audify TTS speech, I did have to rewind a fair bit here and there. The magic is intricate so there were long descriptions when Herewiss was working on his swords and spells.

There might be a term for this but the world is one where polyamory and perhaps bisexuality is the norm, at least for the humans. Some are sex friends, some a one-off, some you love and want to spend the rest of your life with and some you don't. Herewiss' 'Loved' is Freelorn, and by the end he also has Sunspark or 'Spark', a fire god. Freelorn has a sex friend in Segnbora.

Segnbora is the opposite of Herewiss, where he couldn't bring out his true power, she can't control hers. We didn't get to see Segnbora fully open up though she came close with Herewiss, I hope she finds a solution to her problem like Herewiss did.

I loved Herewiss and Freelorn's relationship and backstory, they certainly have their problems but they're there for each other through thick and thin in the end. I did remember feeling Herewiss/Sunspark was a bit instalove the first time I read it and I still agree sorta, but looking at the world and how they see relationships it makes a lot more sense. I guess I just wish it was fleshed out just a bit more on Sunspark's side, maybe get their POV. BTW, Sunspark switches between his 'horse', man and woman forms at will.

I'm really excited to see Freelorn get his sword and take back his kingdom, and for Herewiss to settle more in himself and Segnbora as well.

I got the most glorious fic (and image collage) -- this feels like it could be an outtake from the actual books, and that's high praise.

On very bad news: my belly dance teacher, Elizabeth, popped over to the Middle East to get some dancing in during the half term holiday, and she is now trapped there thanks to the war. We suggested she find the embassy and let them know she's there but that's all we've heard, so none of us know what's happening beyond that. Some prayers for her safety would not come amiss if anyone reading this has a prayer list :(

On slightly better news, DH and I are having a heat pump put in, to run our central heating, instead of the gas boiler we previously had. And when I say 'we're having a heat pump put in' I mean right now. One engineer is outside drilling something. One is putting sticky back plastic over our carpets to protect them, prior to checking which radiators need to be replaced.

(Apparently we need larger radiators because the water coming from the heat pump will be at a lower temperature than that coming from a boiler, so we'll need a larger surface area of radiator to provide equivalent heating.)

We were keen to get a heat pump because we are with an electricity provider who get all their electricity from renewables (mostly wind farms around here.) That way, once we swap our gas hob for an electric one, we will be freed from fossil fuel use except for the cars. (They're on the plan too, but second hand electric cars are not yet as available as we need, and who can afford a new car?)

I'm very impressed with our electricity people so far (Octopus Electric.) They said they'd be here by 8am and they were here at 8.10am. (In contrast to the scaffolding people who said they'd be here yesterday and never turned up at all.)

They're putting protectors on our carpeting where they intend to walk. They say it will take them three days to install the heat pump system, but we'll only have one day without heating. And they have given us three fan heaters to keep us warm on that one day, and told us we can keep them afterward.

It'll be hard to go back to a system where you have to heat up the hot water tank in order to have hot water, (rather than the current system where the boiler heats the water on demand.) But we're doing our bit for the planet, so that will have to be the consolation :)

[personal profile] ysilme here: 566 works for the new drawer draft. I hadn't been able to properly focus on creative writing for several months due to circumstances outside my control, surviving on alibi sentences and random snippets. While it's been interesting to see where my writing mind went with the daily randomness it was and still is a bit of a struggle to get back into continous work at one project at a time. The first step had been alibi sentence but for the same WIP every day, followed by small snippets of the same. As a next step I've tackled revamping a larger drawer fic I wasn't happy with any longer and also wanted to convey into an English version, and am now completely rewriting it as a draft while getting rid of an embarrassing amount of bad plotting, characterisation and writing. *lol*

[personal profile] sylvanwitch here: 508 words on "Dixon and the Detective" for me today.

Rabbit, rabbit! To inaugurate the spring month, it snowed flurrily all yesterday morning. This afternoon we are flooded with freezing sun. I can't believe Purim is already upon us. So many names need to be blotted out.

As of the start of the month, I seem to have had over a hundred-dollar drop in my Patreon membership without any notification of a mass die-off in subscriptions. Any suggestions on interpreting this deficit would be appreciated since it is my only steady source of income at the moment and we are so broke.

I am still feeling in something of a mental blast crater about the news. I have spent my afternoon on the phone. [personal profile] rushthatspeaks who also spent his afternoon on the phone is coming over and we are going to lie on the couch and complain about doctors and lawyers. And business executives.

Greenland ('20): It's weird that I had not heard/seen this before but ah well. There were a couple of extremely tense moments. I feel like there was a lack of urgency in some scenes from background characters. Not the most original movie but I will definitely watch the second one to see what happens to them down the line. 3/5 stars

10.0 Earthquake ('14): Ah, I've seen this. I'm getting tired of family drama disaster movies. And the daughter with a gross love interest/friend. It had a few good points though. 2/5

Night of the Reaper ('25): The twist did manage to surprise me a little, probably because I'm not one to try to figure things out on my own, but it made sense, although the killer reveal should've been a flashback when she said 'I followed you after the funeral'. Would watch again. 4/5?

The Invitation ('15): Guy and his girlfriend along with their old friends are invited to the house he used to live in with his wife and kid until he died in an accident and she cheated on the guy with someone at her grief meetings. Come to find out, the ex-wife and her new boyfriend are in a cult together and acting strange. Turns out they almost poisoned them all to death. Not sure if it was going to be a murder/suicide or if they were just going for the friends. I ended up skimming after a certain point.

Aquamarine ('06): I've seen this movie on lists with stuff like She's the Man etc as ~cultural relics~ so i figured I should watch it lol, Two absolutely boy crazy girls encounter a mermaid who has to prove love exists to her father or be forced into an arranged marriage. They teach her through magazines like Cosmopolitan how to attract one guy in particular. Contains bad acting at times and plenty of cringe situations. 😂 I like the thing with Bonnie and Leonard. It has the whole 'true love can be platonic' thing like Frozen. You know what, I did enjoy this , can't resist 'friendship is love', 'people aren't always what you expect' not to mention 'parents are people too'. => I only sorta knew one song. I feel like I would rewatch it. 4/5 stars

Coherence ('13): I know you're supposed to be confused but I prefer a more clean-cut ending. 2/5 stars

Quest for Camelot
('98) (rewatch) - Man, why wasn't that Ruber cut off the second he started being nasty. The music lyrics for the Camelot song were so straightforward. XD I don't understand what killed Lionel, was it the fall itself? Does the horn sounding only mean 'Excalibur has been stolen'? What do they do if Camelot is being attacked? Turns out I remembered "I Stand Alone" really well! There are plenty of references in this movie including Star Wars. Overall had a great time, I look forward to rewatching more animated movies!

You know I had to try this out, asap. I see it suffers from the same issue the images have, that of being too big. With images, I resize before uploading to Squidge Images so they won't be so huge here... but I have no idea how to do that with video. Any suggestions?

Rico in jeans, which is a rare occasion, deserved something special. 😉 This is my first vid short. I'm sure I'll be making more eventually.

(Not that Rico taking up the entire screen is necessarily a bad thing...) But I'm guessing it doesn't look right on a lot of journals because it's too big? Again, I'm not sure how to make it smaller. And, any good, free, online video editing tools you can recommend? I used Video Cutter for this. Thanks!Read more... )

* We are entering primary season just generally. States vote at different times, so I beg ALL of you to check when your state is voting. If you are in an in-person vote state, research ahead of time so you can vote for the candidate with views closest to your own. I also suggest looking at things like volunteer work and endorsements, because it really, really helps with things like sheriff and judicial elections, but can be useful in all sorts of primaries when you have multiple good options.

* Monday morning I stayed up despite my exhaustion to push out a truncated aggregate and do phone bureaucracy. The first one went fast and got me enough more food benefits that I can go get perishables, probably Tuesday or Wednesday, which I surely need.

My suspicion that this was an ill omen for the second phone bureaucracy was correct. Spent nearly an hour and a half trying to trick my way past the voice bot gatekeeper that kept telling me to us their online AI assistant and then hung up over and over again, plus long waits on hold where they'd also randomly hang up so I had to start over and over and over. I lost track but I estimate about eight attempts just to get nothing solved when I did reach a live human. Sigh.

* This is why there was very little live posting Wednesday, and you shouldn’t be alarmed if I don’t post much Thursday.

Wednesday muscle spasms in my abdomen and thighs woke me up. I had potassium earlier in the week. I think this was related to the abdominal tremors that made me not do physio Monday. Spasms in general are both painful and exhausting, but the abdominal ones are far more exhausting than physio and harder to mitigate than, say, a charley horse.

I went and did the hot bath thing and I was thought I was mostly recovered, but spasms are exhausting and I needed to get the perishables, because I only have until the 28th to spend the extra food allotment and it only went through Monday. I needed a bunch of things badly, also including ingredients for New Millennial to take home for my food prep. I also need to do a library run, preferably Thursday, but Friday on the outside. Groceries is very close, and also, I’d have someone to put groceries away and feed me if I went right then.

It was rough and I deteriorated noticeably through the process. I went a little over, but over is better than under as it uses the whole benefit and I’d planned for it. I was late enough that it was self check only. I am objectively bad at self check. Most self check machines refuse to recognize my fingers as real, ad it can take 10-15 minutes for me to get one button to register. As a result I only do it when there is no other option, so I have very little experience.

Self check is basically useless for me 99 out of a hundred times and it also means fewer jobs.

About half the stuff in my cart was fruit or veg from the fresh produce section.

They had bought new readers since last time I’d been forced to use them and get this: They recognize my fingers as real. O.o I wonder if they will apply this new technology to cell phones. (The old school pressure mechanism ones I can use, but modern cell phones don’t do that and can’t identify my fingers as fingers. Apparently it’s not just me having this problem also at regular check out when they replaced the pads there to. It is annoying. I don’t understand how replacing a technology that works with one that only works for some people is an upgrade, but here we are).

Anyway, this is the first time since the new tech was introduced where I didn’t need attendant help for the buttons to believe I existed.

It is still so much faster if someone who does this for living does check out, but I made it.

I had nothing left when I got back, but I’d bought easy stuff for New Millennial to make while doing the usual kitchen stuff so I could just lie down. I’d eaten about half my dinner when the spasms came back worse.

So I spent a couple more hours on Spasms as an activity. Livia could tell something was very wrong and kept herding me back to bed. There was no way to explain to her lying down hurts worse, since I can’t easily move my body around into whatever hurts least for that set of muscles spasming, and also I can’t hydrate, which I needed to do.

I gave in anyway each time, as she was so distressed she was using her voice. I’d lie down and she’d lie next to me and I’d pet her butt because I couldn’t reach the rest. She’d get up. I’d shuffle back to try to mitigate. she’d come get me. Towards the end she’d herd me to bed, then run right off to do cat stuff and I’d painfully drag myself back out again.

She’s a sweet, sweet girl.

* Thursday, on top of the massive pile of urgent action items and being two week behind on news because of horrible physical challenges, Waterfox updated and scrambled every fucking thing. It's going to take hours I don't have to untangle it. Fucking A Waterfox!

* Friday I stayed up for a library run, then put away the forage stuff before bed. I managed physio okay, but was so exhausted after that I let Livia persuade me to stay in bed with her way too long. There are so many things needing doing here, and the effort of sitting up has me low key weepy. It is annoying. 4:37AM and I've accomplished nothing.

* Caveat: I haven't seen this movie. The costumes seemed incoherent and I legitimately couldn't figure out why we are casting white Heathcliffs in the 21st century, so I was waiting for reviews. (This doesn't excuse any version with a white Heathcliff post Hayes code, but there is really no fucking excuse a quarter of the way into the 21st century). I suspect I'm not going to bother, especially now I know how the domestic violence is being handled.

It might've been the last snow of the season this morning. A light dusting, enough to make me think a coat would've been nice and not too much to make me need more than a sweatshirt. It was nice to feel the last bits of cold, especially since the sun was out a couple of hours later, so nothing much stuck around. Few people were at the market, which made it easier - I haven't been to the Sunday one in a while, and as anemic as this time of year is for produce, it's nice to see some depth of color when it comes to the root vegetables.

In other shopping news, from working in assorted doctor's offices, I found a good quality bandage brand, and online shopping being what it is, I had to resort to eBay for a couple boxes. Most medical supply places call for a minimum order of significantly more than a couple boxes of bandaids, which I understand, and convenience pushes me towards eBay because that's all I need right now. It was that or Amazon, and I'm slightly more trusting of eBay as a general institution.
